Suicide Risk Assessment

Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death and the fourth leading cause for men under age 65 in the United States.  For each death, about 45 people attempt and survive. Suicide attempts and deaths are disturbing and often devastating for all those close to the person. We know that people who are under the care of a mental healthcare provider are those most at risk. Still, mental health care providers often feel frightened and inadequate in making judgments about people's safety. This webinar will assist people in making more sound decisions when working with poeple at risk for suicide. It will provide information on both risk and protective factors. We will discuss the intersection of suicide risk and mental health diagnoses. Information will be shared on evidence based interventions for managing suicidal ideation and behavior. Attention will be paid to special populations including adolescents and those who identify as LGBTQ.
