Student-Involved Classroom Assessment

This course, available for 32 PD hours or three graduate credit hours through the University of St. Francis, builds a deep understanding of the difference between sound and unsound classroom assessment by framing assessment as a teaching tool and integral component of the instructional process. The students will: 1) understand the purposes of assessment as a system; 2) learn the principles for quality assessment development as well as what quality assessments looks like in a classroom; 3) develop confidence and improve skills in classroom assessment; 4) understand how interpret and communicate assessment results; 5) learn about student involvement in the assessment process and its effects on motivation; 6) develop a common assessment language; and 7) become leaders in the development of high quality classroom assessments. The course balances theory and practice in a way that models for teachers and administrators exactly the kinds of assessment experiences recommended for use in the classroom with their own students. Students will strenthgen their research, analytical, speaking, and writing skills. Learning activities are designed to focus on practical issues in classroom assessment.
