Learn various healthcare career paths and the educational requirements needed to achieve your future career goals. Join us for an engaging, interactive four-day career exploration camp spotlighting roles in dental health, nursing, and emergency medical services. Attire should consist of long pants or jeans (no shorts, skirts, or capris) paired with closed-toed tennis shoes.
Day One | Monday, July 6 | Dental
Students will have the opportunity for hands-on learning experiences with dental techniques using patient simulators in a clinical setting. They will get to try their hand at tasks like taking alginate impressions, pouring and trimming stone dental models, evaluating dental radiographs, good oral hygiene, taking and recording medical and dental histories, dental charting and so much more! Beyond that, students will explore different careers within the dental field, discovering the unique responsibilities of each member of the dental team. Fun activities will also highlight the importance of teamwork and how to handle conflicts effectively.
Room: G-106B - Dental Lab
Instructor: Lyndsey Beetz
Day Two | Tuesday, July 7 | Nursing
Get ready for an exhilarating experience in our nursing simulation lab, where students will dive into various nursing skills! They'll practice using a stethoscope to assess lung and heart sounds, familiarize themselves with vital signs and medications, learn to address various patient needs, and master the art of taking and documenting medical histories, among other valuable skills. Additionally, students will have the chance to explore careers in the nursing field, uncovering the responsibilities needed for success. And that's not all – students will be involved in class discussions that will ignite critical thinking skills, essential in the fast-paced world of nursing!
Room: B-209 - Nursing Lab
Instructor: Cathy Lenkaitis
Day Three | Wednesday, July 8 | EMS
Uncover the lifesaving techniques used by Emergency Medical Service providers in prehospital settings! Students will receive an introduction to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), training in splinting and bandaging wounds, as well as the assessment of vital signs. Next, they'll have the chance to put their newfound skills into action by participating in a real-life scenario where they must care for a "patient" in our ambulance simulator. Students will also gain an understanding of the importance of reliability and accountability within the EMS professions.
Room: D-108 - EMS Lab
Instructor: Nick Fish
Day Four | Thursday, July 9 | OSF Hospital Tour & Career Exploration
Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the healthcare field with a guided tour of OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota! Students will be bussed to the facility, where they will explore different hospital departments and see firsthand how various medical professionals work together to provide patient care. Students will gain insight into the daily responsibilities of real-life nurses, doctors, and other healthcare specialists.

OSF St. Paul Medical Center, Mendota
Transportation:
