Learn why Wisconsin is known as the cheese state! Wisconsin has a long tradition of cheese production and is widely associated in popular culture with cheese and the dairy industry. From the countryside and farms to the urban environment, Wisconsin loves its cheese. This morning we will visit the Daluge Farm, a 5th generation dairy farm. Peter Daluge and his daughters, Erin Grawe and Megan Daluge milk 140 cows on 170 acres. We'll get an up-close experience on a modern Wisconsin dairy farm. Next, we will head into Milwaukee for a shopping stop at Glorioso's Market which opened on February 14, 1946 featuring a wide variety of Italian cheeses and other traditional Italian favorites. A family-style lunch will be served at Old Town Serbian Gourmet House, a Milwaukee favorite serving up old world family recipes since 1971. Menu includes Cheese Burek, a Serbian specialty and ends with strudel. Another “cheesy” stop will include the National Bobblehead Museum and Hall of Fame - the only one of its kind with more than 6500 bobbleheads on display. This experience would not be complete without visiting an urban cheese factory to enjoy some curd and cocktail pairings! Then get ready to Say Cheese! – we will stop at a local photo studio and enjoy some fun & frivolity posing for the camera. Before we head back to the Land of Lincoln, we'll visit Duesterbeck’s Brewing Company. Set on an actual 150-year old farm outside of Elkhorn, Duesterbeck’s opened in 2019 as Wisconsin’s Premier Farmhouse Microbrewery. We’ll sample a few craft beers and enjoy some snacks while learning about the vision and dream of the family to transition the farm to an agribusiness. We’ll also get a peek at neighbor Doug Amon’s beautiful rose garden. There may also be a bit of “cheesy” sampling, trivia and jokes along the way.
