Communicating with someone who has dementia or Alzheimer's disease requires sensitivity and an understanding of the progressive nature of the condition. As dementia advances, individuals often experience difficulties in understanding and expressing language. This course provides information on strategies when communicating with someone with dementia. The class will also provide an overview of the assessment, diagnosis, and management of dementia or Alzheimer's disease, as well as care planning following diagnosis. This course is open to everyone, with a focus for healthcare professionals who provide healthcare services to and have direct patient interactions with adult populations age 26 or older. This class meets the Illinois licensure requirement for one-hour training on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. *This course is free to participants. Nurses, nursing home administrators, counselors, social workers, respiratory technicians, occupational therapists and physical therapists wishing to receive CE hours will pay a $20 transcription fee.
