Survival Skills: Making Fire by Friction

« back to classes page
Why do I need to learn how to make friction fire when I’ve got a lighter and ferro rod? Besides being a connection to our ancestors’ survival and a truly personally rewarding experience, making fire by friction is a native skill, knowledge that never runs out and you’ll always have on you. Tools break, die out, and you don’t always have them with you. Knowledge is the lightest gear you carry. Come build, experience, and take home part of your early human heritage with the two most popular methods, the bow and hand drills. It’s an experience that you’ll never forget!

This class will meet mostly outdoors. Dress for the outdoors. Bring a camping knife, note-taking materials, camera, water bottle, and snacks. Courses for ages 18 and up. In case of weather cancellation(s), class will be rescheduled to the same time and place the next Saturday.

Classes limited to 8 students, 18 or older.
