James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok grew up in what is now Troy Grove but found lasting fame on the American frontier. As 2026 marks the 150th anniversary of his death in Deadwood, South Dakota in August of 1876, this is an excellent opportunity to revisit his uniquely American story. We will look at several important episodes from Wild Bill's life as well as the legend that grew up around him even while he was alive. We will also highlight George Preston Blow, an internationally recognized artist born in Peru, Illinois. Explore his artistic career, his influence on American art, and his ties to the historic Westclox building in Peru and how his legacy continues to be reflected in the Illinois Valley.

Presented by Alex Rezvan (Mendota Museum & Historical Society and Gary Biolchini (Westclox Museum)
